Bacon

Today I made a bunch of Bacon for BLTs for the family. Got me thinking....why in the world do most burners love bacon. Seriously, its like an obsession. That I just have never understood. I may be weird, but I have never understood why everyone loves it so.

On playa, Bacon is like gold. It is salty, crunchy and protein. That i get. But in the real world, I just don't get it! Don't get me wrong, it is yummy to eat. But a bitch to cook. It's greasy and messy.

Boots!

These purple flat boots were on sale with a huge discount. They are super comfy and will be great to wear on playa during the day or night. Until then,I will wear them occasionally :-)

2012!

Since I now officially have a ticket to the burn, I am starting to write again on here! In 2010, it helped me get ready to write my thoughts and process down. I want to try to do that again.

It is already April! Which means there are just 4 months to the burn. While I am a little more prepared than last time, there is still a lot to do and aquire and figure out! But, one thing I know, is that it will all fall into place. I am planning on camping with Pink Heart again. Why wouldn't I? They are my family & I love how we give to the playa.

More later. :-)

Playa Coat

Last year, one item I worried about most was a big heavy warm kick ass coat for the night time. I was SO fortunate and lucky that a friend of mine let me borrow one of hers. (Yes, ONE. She has about 10!) But, this year, I want to get/make my own and have it be MINE MINE MINE.

So, on a hunt for ideas I go.....(note that I will most likely find one used and do something to it, but, it is fun to look at ideas)

Glow Fur Coat
Ok, so the price tag is just a little out of my price range. But, this is really super cool. EL wire rocks! (I was afraid of it last year, but, after working with it for Seacompression, no longer am I scared..more on that later)

Indigoo Magic
Although this doesn't look really super warm, it still kicks ass.

Floaty Fairy Dress Coat
I seem to be drawn to this style. I am not super fond of this fabric, but, the style I like.

umm...ya...NO
Not sure what to say...

Good Basic Fur Coat
This actually is a good basic foundation for something really awesome. Super bummed it is not my size. Someone should snatch it up quickly though...so much potential!

Another Good Coat
Another one with lots of potential. And, its PINK and we all know how I feel about that, right! Again, too small. UGH. What is with all these small things on etsy. Don't people realize there are those of us that are regular women!!!

Cobalt Blue!
I love this coat. The style, the fact that it is warm. And the color. Cobalt blue is one of my all time favorite colors. (My prom dress was this color) I want this....

Black Fur Again
This is actually my size. Another good foundation for an awesome coat.

That is enough for now. I have wasted enough time! :)

Window Shopping....

Yep, it is that time again...window shopping for things I, or someone I may know, might like!

(NOTE: Another goal of mine this year is to work on my "costume" closet. For on and off playa.)

Tonite I am looking at etsy. Always entertaining and awesome. Great ideas and some stuff actually worth buying.

Ready?....

NEW FLUFFIES: Cheetah Faux fur! This pair of fluffies is UV reactive, they glow under black light! So awesome. Not a bad price either.
Last year I bought one pair of fluffies...purple of course. This year I want more. I love them! they allow me to wear my tennis shoes and still look fabulous

Leopard Print Hood ThingOMG this I totally want!!! Seriously! And, it looks fairly simply to sew (NOTE: another goal for 2011...learn to sew simple things!) And and, I have all this fabric that I got awesome deals on and didn't use last year. So, this could TOTALLY be doable...anyone want to sew it? hehe

White Rabbit Hat
Even though it is a little pricey, it still is awesome. I want to add to my hat collection and this would be great. And, it would be a good accessory for Bunnycon.

Hip Belt
I need to get one of these. And, its PURPLE!!!  Seriously. Would make carrying things at night so much easier instead of the backpack. Although, I would want one where I could attach a couple caribiners.

Jellyfish Hat!!!
Not much to say here. Other than, I need a net.

So much more on etsy. But, that is an interesting start.

What a difference a year makes...

This time last year I had made the decision to go to Burning Man. Only to find out that my one friend who had been trying to get me to go for years, was not going. That left me with a dilemma, not go, or go anyway. I chose to go anyway. And, started researching like a crazy mad woman. All that research and planning paid off and I had a wonderful 7 months preparing, even better time at the event and have gained so many new friends and changed my life in so many ways.

In the last year and half, I have lost friends. But I have gained even more. My friends who I have known for years and are still around, can see the major change in me. Often they will comment on it. This change is very hard for me to describe to my new friends, other than just a shift in thinking. No, things are not perfect and life happens. But, for the most part, I am happier and healthier than I have been in quite awhile.

After the burn, I jumped feet first into the local community here. Now, I REALLY wish that I would have just done that last year, BEFORE the burn. I was so scared though. So I didn't. But I realize now that I missed out on so much because I was too scared. So, advice for those of you on the fringe...just do it. Jump in! Attend a party. Attend a beer friday or potluck. Go up and talk to people. Most are actually nice and will let you in. Jump in, volunteer and get involved. Just do it.

This time last year I was madly doing research, trying to figure out what the experience was going to be like, what I needed to get, figure out, etc. This year, I am filled with more excitement than fear. Joy than being scared. I am surrounded by like minded people who care so much. It really blows me away how much I am cared for an loved. For who I am, not for the person that people *think* I should be. Instead of researching and wondering how to make the big journey to the burn, I am focusing on remaining items on working on me.

All while dreaming of big lofty things I want to do at the burn this year that I could not do last year. Example to this: I WILL get my body to the point that I can take a bike to playa! Last year, I knew that I would not be able to. Just the thought of going to the dessert for a week (turns out I went for 10 days), was freaking me out. I really did not think my body could take it. So, I just let the bike thing go. My body did amazing...so awesome. I was actually just in awe. So, this year...my goal is to get in shape and fit for my body to be able to be on bike on playa. It will happen!

Wow, this got really long. The point is this: I am so grateful for this past year. Full of love, gratitude, creativity and much more. I owe this to a number of people who have become close friends. And, allowing myself to open up and soak it up. I am so excited to see what is in store this year.

I keep attempting to sit down to write and get distracted! And, during the day, I think of things that I want to write and put on this blog, but then they pass and I forget about them. I suppose I should start carrying a notepad with me again!

Until then, remember to float more and steer less. :)

New Address & Testing

This is a test post. I wanted a new (i.e. more accurate) address for the blog. So, I created a new one and then moved everything from last year over to here. So, this is testing how new posts vs. old posts look and etc...

Be prepared for me to start writing again...

Pink Heart Camp Video

Yes, I know. I have not posted since before I left for my trip. Honestly, I didn't feel the need to post. But, now that I have decompressed, I MAY start writing again.  Until then, here is the video of our Burning Man experience. As made by my friend Halycon.

Single Digits

Holy freaking cow...we are down to the single digits before I leave. How in the world did I get here! When I first decided to go on this journey to Burning Man, part of me really didn't think I would actually go! Seriously. All things were stacked against me, including myself. But, as we are here in the final countdown, this is really happening. All the major logistics are worked out: transportation, shelter, food, camp. I am SO HAPPY that I joined and was accepted into the fold of my theme camp. I feel so loved and cared for already, it is hard to describe. I have tried my best to be a part of the camp even though I am up here in Washington and the majority of them are in cali! The things that are left are minor: clothes, coat, sleeping stuff, shoes, cool stuff, etc. And, if something gets left behind, or, I can't take stuff I really wanted to, then that is ok. All will work out and this experience will be awesome and amazing.

I am such a planner and need things all detailed out. Through this experience, I have learned to let that go (to a point!) and just float. I am trying to float. Trying not to have a panic attack that I am not packed yet, that I am not sure how to get everything in, not sure what I will do on the train, not sure if I will find a camera to take, not sure how I am going to handle "playa time" and many many many more. Just going with the flow of things and allowing the universe to guide me. So far this year, it has mostly been a good thing.

In two weeks....

Two weeks from now I will be on the playa. Setting up my tent and help set up the camp that I have only been a virtual part of so far. Mixed emotions going through me right now :) I am so excited and scared at the same time. I am such a planner, but out there I will be learning to let that go and just float.

I need this!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QTXKCE/ref=oss_product

I want one of these for my trip! Not only can I listen to the radio on the train, but it will keep my cell phone charged as well on the trip! And, it will be handy for Burning Man! Anyone care to purchase me a late birthday present or early christmas present? :)

Pink Heart Beads

I just scored 300 of these beads....aren't they awesome! Now I need to find some leather or ribbon or something to make necklaces or bracelets with them! :)

more preparations

Well, taping the tent didn't work. Went out to inspect it today and its coming up. Stupid tent material. I am now debating if I should try to glue gun nylon fabric over the mesh or just say screw it and just to with the rainfly....hell, its going to be dusty anyway, right?

I am also trying to do a little research on my camelbak thing. I KNOW I need to stay hydrated and drink water. BUT, I have never been one to drink straight water. Even when I was a baby I would spit it out, yes, I know, I am weird ( but that is another story). I am sitting here tonight attempting to drink straight water and it just is not working well at all.  Now, who knows, out on the playa, maybe the magic fairies will take over and I will be able to drink straight water, but, I am not planning on that. So, I am thinking a little flavor would be a good thing...like crystal light. But, wondering if it is OKAY to put that into the camelbak. I imagine that I would never get the flavor out of the bladder, but, that is okay, as it will be for Burning Man only anyway. But, is there any health issue with it? Last thing I will need out on the playa is to get sick.

Tent Taping

How to prepare a tent for the playa? Well, you must cover all the mesh.  I had been debating for some time about how to cover the mesh at the top of my tent. Furnance filters? fabric? Cut up the rainfly and hot glue it? Well, my cousin suggested we use duct tape. So, we did. I am hoping it will stick. I am leaving it up for a few days to see....

Hair....

My hair is extremely thick. REALLY THICK. As such, I keep it about shoulder length. For Burning Man, I have been waffling about what to do with my hair. Some thoughts are just pony tail with a hat, bandannas, etc. But what i REALLY would love to do is small braids. Similar to these below...

Not the cornrows, but the small braids. but, when I asked my regular hair lady about it months ago, she just laughed at me! It would take too long and kill her wrists! :)  But, I still would like to do it. So, I am hoping maybe someone knows someone who is just starting out in the hair biz and needs the experience and to show off for thier portfolios and stuff. Not sure if I will find anyone, but I can hope and wish!

Two weeks to go

Exactly two weeks ( and a few hours) until i leave for the burn. As I type this on my cool new phone, I realize that I have gone into a manic mode. I have not slept more than 4 hours for the past fee nights and my mind is racing like crazy. I know this is all in my brain, but I wish I could do something to slow it down and get out of this manicness. It will pass, always does. But, I dont want to make any bad or rash decisions or do anything stupid. So, I need some support please. Thanks. I will write more later as there is alot to tell that is going on!

19 days...

So, I must say that I have been a bad bad horrible blogger. Really, there just has been no time to write. Or, by the time I thought about it, my mind was already too jumbled to make anything make sense. I MAY go back and explain the events over the last few weeks, but, it has all been good. We survived the craziness of Squishy's show and are now enjoying family from out of town.

Today makes my 19 day mark until I leave on the train. CRAZY. I am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this journey is really coming true and trying not to be scared of how it will all turn out.

Some of you have asked how you can help me right now in my final preparations. So, I am putting together a list of items that I still need. Maybe if you are out and see them onsale you can pick some up. Or, you can donate a small bit through paypal.  No pressure at all, but, if you feel like you can, than I will gladly accept the help! :)

Here is the link to the page with supplies I need. I will try to keep it updated with things as I think of them: http://purpleishealing.blogspot.com/p/burning-man-supplies-needed.html
Or...if you prefer to donate funds, here is the option you requested..
